Comedy Spotlight: Aziz Ansari

This post marks the beginning of the new blog. Instead of boring you all with lengthy introductions, I'll just tell you that this blog is the evolution of another, well-trafficked blog with a new design and focus. I hope you enjoy it, and let's start the new content out with a bang!

Today's post is shining the comedy spotlight on a bright new star, Aziz Ansari:

Yup, him.

Yes, I know what you're saying, "I recognize this guy!" and you might be right. All that matters is he's a rising star. I first saw this guy on ABC's "Scrubs" playing the part of a young medical intern named Ed, who cared more about electronic trivia games than placing IV's. Dr. Cox ripped him a new one and he quickly exited the show, but I was left with a distinct feeling that a lot more people were about to know who this guy was.

In any case, I found him hilarious and quickly googled him.

A standup comedian originally from South Carolina, Aziz gained notoriety in MTV's "Human Giant" sketch-comedy show. Here's a skit from them I found really laugh-worthy:

As you can see, his timing is amazing and he has some great material on hand.

Some more standup:

Aziz is a funny guy, but that's not his only personality (although it's his real one...probably). In the upcoming movie "Funny People" starring Adam Sandler and Seth Rogan, Ansari plays an up-and-coming comedian named "Randy". Randy is a filthy comic whose punchlines are capped off with a DJ scratching his name on a turn-table and has such raunchy lines I bet he earned "Funny People" its R-Rating within his first 30 seconds of screen time. Here's a sample of the Randy character.

Well, I hope you enjoyed the first post on this blog. If you've heard of Aziz before, then you're probably really excited for the second season of "Parks and Recreation" on NBC and for the release of "Funny People". If you hadn't heard of him before reading this post, I hope you laughed at his stuff. This being a new blog and all, I know this post isn't going to add to his popularity and buzz all that much, but I wanted to post how much I appreciate a good comic and what that kind of person brings: laughter. I can't get enough of it, you shouldn't either.

Andrew, out.
